 What is common and what is different among books of the Jewish Bible, the Catholic Bible, the Orthodox Bible, and the Protestant Bible


The common elements among the books of the Jewish Bible, the Catholic Bible, the Orthodox Bible and the Protestant Bible include:


     a. Although each of the Bibles vary in the number of books they contain, each relates the story of God's plan for salvation

     b. The translations of all the Bibles are based upon the Hebrew Bible

     c. The Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Bibles order their books according to the Septuagint which is referred to asLXX.   LXX is the Greek translation of the Jewish Scriptures. The Jewish Bible is ordered after the Hebrew Bible
    

     d. Some titles of the books are different. Samuel 1 and Samuel 2 in the Christian Bibles are called 1 Kingdoms and 2 Kingdoms in the Hebrew Bible
    

     e. The number of books vary between Bibles
          1. Jewish Bible - 24 books
          2. Protestant Bible - 39 books
          3. Catholic Bible - 46 books
          4. Orthodox Bible - 53 books
    

     f. The Jewish Bible places the Minor Prophets into one book while the other Bibles place these writings into separate books
    

     g. The first five books are the same in all Bibles
    

     h. The Protestant Bible does not contain the "Apocrypha", the Catholic Bible does
    

     i. The Hebrew Bible is divided into three parts; The Torah, Prophets and Writings while LXX is divided into four parts; The    Pentateuch, Historical, Poetic and Prophetic books
